5 sleep facts you probably didn't know yet (and how Fables & Feathers helps with this)

Who doesn't know them, the standard sleep advice that is all true, but sometimes not feasible. 7 to 8 hours of sleep, no blue light before bed, and no heavy meal before bed. But did you know that there are also some surprising facts about sleep that can help you improve your sleep? We at Fabels & Feathers, in partnership with Pillows Hotels, share these facts and tell you how our luxury bedding contributes to your sleep quality.

1. Placebo sleep
Believe you slept well, you often perform better the next day! This was discovered in a study in which students believed they had slept better, which improved their cognitive functions. So, even if you haven't slept optimally, that thought: ‘I slept well’ can make you believe you slept wonderfully.

2. Key sleep
Albert Einstein swore by short naps during the day. Even though his technique of falling asleep with a key has never been proven, research does show that naps of less than 30 minutes improve your brain functions. And the Bed Collection of Fabels & Feathers makes it easier ánd more appealing to just pop into your bed for a power nap.

3. 9 minutes of snoozing
During sleep, you go through several stages. The last stage of your sleep cycle, called Rapid Eye Movement sleep (REM sleep), is important for memory and emotional processing, among other things. It is the stage where you dream. To prevent you from actually performing these dreams in your sleep, your muscles are paralysed. Of course, the eye muscles (hence REM sleep), heart and lungs remain active.

4. The sleeping trick of soldiers and pilots
Military personnel and pilots do not have the time to lie awake for an hour before falling asleep. To fall asleep quickly, they perform two steps. First, they relax their bodies step by step, starting at the face and ending at the feet. After 10 seconds, they move on to the next step, imagining themselves lying in a canoe with a clear blue sky. Then they imagine themselves lying in a hammock in a dark room. Finally, they repeat the words “don't think” before falling asleep.

5. The scent of lavender can help you fall asleep faster
Lavender is not only a popular scent, but it also has proven calming effects. Several studies show that lavender lowers your heart rate and puts you in a more relaxed state, helping you fall asleep faster. Not for nothing that this fragrance note is also incorporated in the Home Collection products from Fabels & Feathers.
